The growing race participation demonstrates the reach it already has among amateur athletes, but they are not the only ones to enjoy the uniqueness of this race. Those near the professional level also talk of the event as a unique one on the calendar. Such is the case of Xavi Cabanilles, who has broken the record for the event on both occasions he has run it and, having become a winner in numerous triathlon events in Spain, it is the only road race he takes on in his calendar.
“For me,” Cabanilles explains, “the race was one of the great events of the year. I had it marked on the calendar since the beginning of the season because it fit perfectly in terms of dates and because we knew the route was ideal for running fast.”
“The atmosphere at the start, and especially at the finish, with a huge crowd, gave you an extra boost of energy when you needed it most. What’s more, being able to get accommodation right at the race venue, with all of the resort’s services and the beach just a few metres away, makes the experience go far beyond the 21 kilometres,” concludes the two-time winner of the race.
A race for both amateurs and professionals
