Oliva Nova is the starting point and destination for various cycling routes suitable for all types of cyclists and enthusiasts.
The orography and weather conditions of the surroundings where Oliva Nova is located are a major factor when it comes to deciding to ride a bike, whether it be a road bike, a mountain bike, or a hybrid one.
Many of the resort´s guests see the two-wheeler as a perfect match to other sports activities they can engage throughout their stay, such as golf, paddle, tennis, or horseback riding.
For this reason, Oliva Nova offers not only the chance to rent a bike at guests’ request, but also provides a full workshop.
Moreover, the resort also provides guided tours on the routes taken at guest´s request, suitable for regular cyclists or for those who use bicycles occasionally, as well as for families who wish to spend a few hours outdoors enjoying the landscape, which is bordered by both sea and mountains, trademarks of the resort location.
The various routes that can be taken from Oliva Nova also feature varying degrees of difficulty.
The easiest routes are those that start in the resort itself and run through the boundaries of the nearby Marjal de Pego-Oliva Natural Park.
Some of these routes can exceed 30 kilometers, but the maximum slope ranges between 3 and 9 degrees, making these routes suitable for everyone.
If you want to increase the difficulty of the route by one level, you can choose routes with more than 50 kilometers, in two different directions.
On one hand, we can choose to explore the inland area of the Marina Alta region, reaching villages such as Ràfol d’Almúnia, Sagra, Tormos, and Orba (with a must-see visit to enjoy a local specialty like the grilled figatells sandwich or “escombros”), or opt to follow the coastline, reaching Els Poblets, Dénia, or Xàbia.
Lastly, cyclists in better physical condition can choose to extend their route to towns such as Benigembla or Parcent, tackling the formidable climb to Coll de Rates, which in previous years has witnessed a classic rally event which many professional cyclists ride. It is worth noting that these routes are used during the winter by professional cycling teams as preparation for major races on the international calendar: Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and La Vuelta a España. Therefore, the passage of cyclists is something the locals are used to seeing and respect.
In any case, basic safety rules must always be followed, such as wearing helmets and reflective clothing, as well as avoiding peak sun exposure hours.
The Oliva Nova website provides all the information needed to complete a fulfilling route, from maximum height and gradient to the percentage of slope.
