Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort bolsters its ties with different sports through various sponsorship activities. As part of its work concentrating on sport through Oliva Nova, the complex’s management has also been committed to sponsoring sports over the last few years.

Some of these sponsorships were aimed at sporting events in the form of international tournaments such as the Faulcombridge Cup, which is held every year at the Valencia Tennis Club’s facilities. Oliva Nova has been one main sponsors for this competition, which is one of the oldest tennis tournaments in Spain, first held in 1933. In 2022, following two decades when it was not held, the Valencia Tennis Club reactivated the championship, which in 2024 attracted 64 male and female players, thereby establishing its status as an ATP Challenger 125 tournament.

Another of the sporting events in which Oliva Nova has been actively involved is the Total Energies Gran Fondo Alberto Contador long distance cycling event, an initiative by the Contador Foundation. As the general manager of the Contador Foundation, Fran Contador points out that “the relationship with Oliva Nova goes further than sponsoring the team and the Gran Fondo race, whose starting and finishing line is at the resort. We also benefit from their support, their facilities and the magnificent environs. We are delighted to work with the resort, with whom we have a friendly, simple relationship.” As regards this sponsorship, Luis Borho, director of the complex, states that “sport means perseverance, evolution, competitiveness, personal and collective effort, and improvement. This is a series of values that we share with the Foundation and which we believe are essential to be able to improve the service we provide for our clients day after day.”

The Alberto Contador Gran Fondo race has been held since 2018 in the Valencia region, with a route that begins in the La Safor area and ends in Marina Alta, passing through towns such as Orba, Sagra, Tormos and Beniarbeig. It is a very demanding 147-kilometre route that involves climbing peaks like Coll de Rates and Coll Port d’Ebo. The resort accommodates the cyclists and is the starting point of the race. Oliva Nova is also the venue for the awards ceremony and other activities, such as the talk given by Alberto Contador. In the last event, alongside this cyclist, the winner of the Tour de France, Pedro Delgado, also took part in the race.

Padel is another of the resort’s sporting commitments, since it has seven professional courts open to competition and to training periods for international teams seeking to boost their level of competitiveness, thanks also to the good work done with Oliva Nova’s coaches.

The sponsorship agreements involving padel also extend to training schools such as the MM Academy, an academy promoted by Manu Martín, one of the most prestigious coaches in our country who also has several academies across Spain and abroad. Martín began his sporting career in the world of tennis, but in 2001 he swapped clay for the padel court, first as a player and later as a coach at the Spanish Padel Federation. Martín has also been responsible for the success of world champions such as Alejandra Salazar, Cata Tenorio and Gaby Reca.

Finally, another sport with which Oliva Nova maintains strong ties is athletics, represented in this case by the long-distance runner Chema Martínez, one of the most prestigious Spanish athletes thanks to his status as European champion and runner-up in the 10,000-metre event, and having participated in two Olympic Games.

Today, Chema Martínez has become a coach and lecturer, as well as the head of the sports innovation leadership programme at the University of Deusto. Martínez continues to compete in adventure races in extreme conditions, which has led him to travel around much of our planet in recent years.

In 2021, Martínez became the winner of the first 10K organized by Oliva Nova, and over these past years the athlete’s relationship with the resort has become stronger. Indeed, Chema Martínez is a regular at the Oliva Nova facilities, where he also turns up with his family. Martínez leaves from the resort to train, climbing the imposing massif of Montgó on one of his usual circuits.

The resort is the start and finishing point of a popular ten-kilometre race that has to be completed within ninety minutes. More than 2,000 runners have taken part in the four events held to date, which shun the asphalt the for grass of the golf course. This is a race that can be enjoyed by the whole family, since children have their own race. Runners travelling to Oliva also have the option of staying at the resort’s own hotel.
