Is breakfast the most important meal of the day?

The concept that breakfast is the most important meal we are going to have is outdated, but it is still a key moment that can help us improve our health, energy levels and body weight.

What should be included in the first meal of the day?

There is no definition of the perfect breakfast that is valid for everyone; we are all different and have different needs. For example, a person with an active job and who is physically active will need more energy than someone with a more sedentary lifestyle. In addition, those who suffer from a specific pathology will have specific needs. In short, there will be as many perfect breakfasts as there are people and days. The key to making your breakfast perfect is in the choice of foods and their proportions. It may seem very complicated, but by simply including the right foods in your breakfast, you will make your breakfasts healthier and start the day with the energy you need to face it.

Are carbohydrates important in our diet?

A perfect breakfast should include foods with carbohydrates of low-medium glycemic index, foods rich in proteins of high biological value, fiber, minerals, vitamins and healthy fats. Try to avoid consuming foods rich in simple sugars, poor quality fats and salt. As for carbohydrates, it will always be more interesting to introduce slow absorption

carbohydrates, that is to say, whole grain cereals, since in this way we will include a great amount of fiber, in addition to the minerals and vitamins they contain. As they are rich in fiber, they take care of our cardiovascular system, improve intestinal transit and increase the feeling of fullness.

Is protein now fashionable?

Yes, but the perfect breakfast also includes carbohydrates. Choose whole grain breads and cereals, oat flakes… the possibilities are endless. As for proteins, always choose high biological value proteins low in fat. Eggs, dairy products such as milk, fresh cheese and yogurts are highly recommended, always trying to choose sugar-free options, as well as vegetable protein sources, such as chickpea hummus. Fats are also important for our body. Extra virgin olive oil, avocado, nuts and seeds can be good choices for breakfast. Do not hesitate to include them.

Give us two tips to start the day in a healthy way

The best way to introduce vitamins, minerals and extra fiber at breakfast is through fruits and vegetables, always prioritizing whole fruits -better than juice-, so that they keep all their fiber. And the last ingredient, but not less important, is to dedicate the necessary time to breakfast, since most of the time we are in a hurry and we can neither prepare it well, nor enjoy this meal that will influence your energy and health.
