The Francisco Brines Foundation was created in 2019, upon its own initiative, with the aim of both promoting the legacy of the brilliant poet and supporting creative writing.

 

 

Just over two years ago, on the 12th May 2021, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia visited Francisco Brines at his home in Elca, a hamlet located within the town of Oliva. This is the place where he spent his childhood and where, as a teenager, he dreamt in his verses of being old age surrounded by his magnificent library, sitting by the window from which one can see a sea of green orange trees, a thin line of blue sea and, outlined on the horizon, the Montgó as an inspiring, mute and unalterable witness.

That bright morning, Francisco Brines was awarded the Cervantes Prize for his poetic work that fits within intimate poetry, a worthy successor to Luis Cernuda.

He died just a few days after the King and Queen of Spain had rewarded him with the most important award in Hispanic literature in their beautiful mansion.

The pinnacle of a literary career that had already earned him a seat in the Spanish Royal Academy, an Honorary Ph.D. from the University of Valencia and the High Distinction of the Generalitat Valenciana, among other well-deserved awards.
